From document creation to intelligent comparison

Drafting, revising, and coordinating documents are among the core tasks in law firms and legal departments. Especially with contracts and extensive legal filings, the ability to quickly and reliably identify changes between different versions is crucial.

For this reason, redlining and document comparison have long been established tools in the daily work of legal professionals. They make it immediately apparent which content has been added, modified, moved, or deleted.

Document comparison with a long tradition

The technology for professional document comparison has a long history of development.

With DeltaView, Workshare established a document comparison and redlining solution specifically designed for professional users at an early stage. Workshare Compare later evolved from this product history.

In 2019, Workshare was acquired by Litera. The long-standing Workshare Compare technology thus became part of the Litera portfolio. At the same time, Litera already had its own solution for document comparison, Change-Pro. With the later takeover of DocsCorp, compareDocs was added. Litera thus combined three established technologies for professional document comparison: ChangePro, Workshare Compare and compareDocs.

The experience gained and the proven features of these product lines were ultimately incorporated into the strategic comparison solution, Litera Compare.

Litera Compare – Reliably detect changes

With Litera Compare different versions of documents can be compared quickly and accurately.

This precision is crucial, particularly in a legal context: users must be able to reliably identify how a contract or legal document has changed during the course of drafting or negotiation.

The comparison is by no means limited to classic Word documents; a variety of document formats and modern working environments can be incorporated into the comparison process.

New AI features further complement traditional document comparison. Beyond the question “What was changed?“, they can increasingly help address questions such as “What is the significance of this change?” or “What risks arise from it?“

Litera is more than document comparison.

However, equating Litera solely with Litera Compare would not do justice to the current solution portfolio.

The company offers a comprehensive platform of tools that support lawyers and other legal professionals throughout much of a document’s lifecycle—from initial creation, review, and comparison to final delivery. A key component of this is Litera Draft. Various functions are integrated directly into the familiar Microsoft Word environment, supporting tasks such as the following:
